What to Expect at Your Illusion Knot Method™ Appointment

Arrive with your hair cleansed, fully detangled and completely dry. Not damp. A foundation cannot be built correctly on wet hair, and a damp base is the beginning of odor.

Skip heavy oils, butters and grease for 48 hours before your appointment. Product on the scalp interferes with the friction lock that holds each point without tightness.

If your ends are splitting or you have four months of buildup, handle it beforehand: one clarifying wash, one treatment appropriate to your hair, and a trim. Prep failures are the main reason a client is charged the $100 restructuring fee, because unprepared hair has to be washed, detangled and dried before the real appointment can start.

Eat beforehand, bring a charger, bring headphones. This is a multi-hour appointment and you should be comfortable in the chair.

Nothing is applied until we agree on the plan. I assess your scalp condition, check the perimeter and nape for prior tension damage, map your density region by region, and match texture against your own pattern.

We then talk about the finish you actually want — length, volume, part placement, how you style day to day, whether you wear your hair up, whether you swim or train. That conversation changes the build. An install for a client who wears a high ponytail three days a week is mapped differently from one for a client who wears her hair down.

If I see something that needs a rest period, I will tell you plainly and we will design around it. Coverage is never worth a hairline.

The application is braid-free, non-weft and tension-free. Attachment points are distributed across the micro-matrix grid so weight is shared, and each point is set with the friction-lock knot so it holds securely without being pulled taut. The scalp between points stays open for cleansing and treatment.

Duration depends on your density, the length being added and the texture. Plan for a multi-hour session, and expect me to check in on comfort as we go. If you feel any pull, say so immediately — that is a fitting adjustment, not something to tolerate.

The install is finished, shaped and styled before you leave, so you see the real result rather than imagining it. Then we go through your maintenance plan in writing: your wash-day routine, your nighttime routine, which products to use and which to avoid, your mid-wear check window, and your recommended takedown date.

You also leave with photographs for your own record. Documented before-and-after of the hairline and nape at every appointment is how we prove the method is working for your hair over time.

The Master Installation is $1,600, against a typical comparable value of $3,000 and up, and an $800 retainer secures your date. The retainer is applied to your service and is what holds the slot; the balance is due at the appointment.

Punctuality matters because each appointment is built around a mapped plan and a set number of hours. Arriving significantly late may require rescheduling. Please come alone — no additional guests in the studio — and note that media and liability terms are covered in the agreement you sign before we start. All of it is listed on the policies section of the site so there are no surprises.

Expect it to feel weightless. Most clients report no soreness at all, which is the point. Start your wash routine at day seven to ten, keep the perimeter free at night, and attend your mid-wear check.

With maintenance, the install wears beautifully for three to four months, and your raw hair is preserved for reinstallation. If anything feels off — tightness, itch that a clarifying wash does not resolve, a point that loosens early — message me rather than waiting for the next appointment.
